My Inner Transformation – the Body for Life Journey
Every now and then there are times in your life when you have just had enough!!! You know the times I mean. Times where you say ‘that’s it … I can’t take any more of this!!!’
For me that was in January this year when post Christmas holidays (and all the overindulgence that goes with it) I thought it was time to try and get in some kind of shape ( other than round) and decided to go for a jog. I dragged my 106kgs around the block wincing in agony as my body protested every step of the way and got to the end of it and realised with crystal clarity that this was not who I wanted to be… I was eating myself to death and that my lifestyle while comfortable and enjoyable was killing me.
I wanted to have a healthy body that was going to look after me as my kids got older and more active, I wanted to be a person that my wife could be proud of and still ‘want’ and I wanted to be proud of what I saw when I looked in the mirror… I wasn’t any of the things I wanted to be and I had had enough… The question for me then was “How do I become the person I want to be?” That’s where the Body for Life challenge came in – it promised to give me the tools to build a new attitude, new habits and a new body. There had been so many examples of people who had completed it and had great results and long lasting change that I know I could trust the program… this was the kind of change I wanted and needed. Did I ever think I could realistically do it, probably not… Did I ever think I could have a body where my chest stuck out further than my stomach…definitely not… (It was my body type, I used to tell myself) But look at what I achieved… and if I can anyone.
Goal setting has probably been the single biggest factor for me, as I think back to how I felt when I used to look in the mirror, when I think of how I felt when I finished that run, then everyday I remind myself of the reason I am putting myself through this, and realising while I am saying ‘no’ to myself more than I used to, I am also saying ‘yes’ to everyone of my Body For Life goals. You don’t have to do 90 days at once... you don’t have to do week one at once... You just have to do today which is made up of 7 small goals... 1 workout and 6 small meals... When you add 90 days of them together you will, as I have, believe what you thought was unbelievable, and achieve what you thought was unachievable.
Body for Life has given me the confidence to know that I can achieve anything that I want to, with the right goals, the right motivation and the right tools. You don’t have to be a superman, a hero or anything special to become who you want to be. I’m not... I am just a regular guy that had some clear goals and the right tools. Thank you Body for Life for giving the tools to dare to dream that the impossible was within reach.
